Deleting EVERYTHING From an Old IPod.

I know this is probably a very common question, but since i'm new to anything that's from apple, i just wanted to know how to delete everything from it, i tried sync-ing it with my pc and deleting its entire memory, but it didn't really do anything, and all the songs are still on the ipod.

Note that i don't know much about itunes and if it has to do with that, then i won't really know what to do.

If any of you could kindly help me then that would be great.
